I have wanted to write a blog for a while now. I read so many wonderful blogs and I have been wondering how best to share my message. I am very passionate about what I do for a profession….teaching Nia, so I wanted incorporate this into my blog. I first discovered Nia 4 years ago whilst reading a Health/Fitness & Well-being magazine in Dubai, UAE. I had never heard of this movement practice before but this article caught my attention. I was intrigued to learn more about Nia as I was fascinated by the blend of diverse movement forms. I had been searching for something different, as after dancing classical ballet all my life and now then reaching my mid-30′s I wanted to find a practice that was more gentle on my body, more holistic. The article definitely caught my attention to TAKE ACTION! At the time there was no Nia class available in Dubai, so I sent off for the DVD from Nia HQ so that I could see what this Nia was all about! I remember receiving the DVD and sitting down to watch it and I just knew this was something I wanted to explore more. At the time my husband and I were re-locating back to live in the UK. Near to where we we going to based a local studio just so happened to have a Master Nia Black Belt Trainer Helen Terry from the States scheduled to host a White Belt Intensive Training….so I signed up!! It was meant to be and perfect timing. Many of my friends thought I was a little crazy as I had never even danced a Nia class, but I just know at the time that I had to do this! I remember showing up for this first evening introduction and feeling very nervous about what I was letting myself in for. I was made to feel extremely welcome and from those first few hours I just sat and absorbed myself every word that Helen spoke. I had a strange feeling.. I felt very safe, very at home and very comfortable. The next day, as soon as we started to dance I knew I had found what I was looking for, I felt at ease in my body. From my very first Nia experience I was hooked! As a dancer of many years I thought I was very in tune with my body and what I thought my body needed but since dancing Nia I can’t believe how far from that truth I really was. Now I am way more fitter and so much more aware of my body than I have ever been before. This is all down to the inspiring body of work that the two Co-Founders Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas have created with Nia. They are both truly inspirational, exceptional souls changing the lives of thousands & thousands of people on a daily basis. So my Nia journey has begun and what a journey it is becoming, I feel truly blessed on a daily basis to be able to do what I LOVE… Nia had changed the way I move, the way I sense my body forever, it has enhanced my life in profound positive ways….if you haven’t experienced Nia yet I highly recommend that you do…
One of the first things I was taught on my White Belt Training was….
The 4 Energy Allies of Communication……this is now what I choose to use in my life, I carry them forward with me as I continue to see my path & my purpose as I dance through life….
1. Speak with Impeccability ~
Speak TRUTH and stay on topic
Listen carefully to whom ever is speaking, including yourself
Know when to stop
When sharing a personal experience, use the word ‘i’
2. Don’t assume anything ~
Minimize inner dialogue
Do not make up stories about another
3. Don’t take anything personally ~
Be in the place of no ‘self pity’ or ‘self importance’
Do not ‘self indulge’ or become ‘self absorbed’
4. Always do your best ~
Be present and participate
Do the best that you can do, even if that is less than what you are being asked to do
Monitor yourself to see that you are truly performing your best
For my blog I would like to start with setting the focus and intent. This is the first cycle of Nia’s (7 cycles of a Class Experience). The idea behind my blog is to share each week my class Focus and Intention with you so that you can use them both during your week. I invite my students to share their class experiences whilst working with the focus/intention and what pearls they have discovered for them ‘selves’ as they ‘dance through life’ outside of their Nia class experience……here goes
Focus : Personal Power Intent : Finding your Purpose
What do you need to let go off in order to discover your Personal Power? Your beliefs, your attitudes?
Letting go will give you clarity, and feed your future.
Get to know yourself and what it is that you really truly want for self?
In Nia, gaining personal power is a practice that requires energy and conscious attention. Personal Power is the act of being conscious about every choice you make that adds or depletes energy/power. It is Personal Power that you use to move through physical, mental, emotional and spiritual challenges and painful experiences. Personal Power is energy used to transmute, alter and support what you desire in the process of manifestation and creation. The simple act of observing your choices, decisions and the results created from those choices and decisions is what helps you gain Personal Power.
1. Be honest & true with self and others
2. CHOOSE LOVE not fear
3. Do not assume
4. Speak your truth
5. Add TRUST as a part of body wisdom
6. Ask questions
7. Love self, the process & the freedom will grow
REWRITE the script…Who are you? How do you think?… and what can you become to create the life you desire?
Crafting a better path for yourself which will lead you to your purpose? WHAT IS YOUR LIFE PURPOSE?
I look forward to hearing from you soon……
Love & light Tracey
